460 million Year Old Lutuites lituus China


A nice fossil specimen of polished Lutuites lituus (family Lituitidae, order Tarphycerida) -sea animal from China. It is dated to middle Ordovician period (460 million years). Specimen has been polished and is from the mountainous area of western Hunan province of China (central region). It measures 88 mm long, 33 mm wide. The matrix size is 94 x 43 x 9 mm. Lituites had early chambers rolled into plane spiral, whorls may or may not have joined but were never closely in contact with one another on dorsal side, later chambers did not form part of spiral but lay in a straight line or had very slight curve; in adult specimens the aperture had 2 projecting lobes (or lappets) at the sides, the siphuncle subcentral to subdorsal. Orthoceras sp. A very lovely palaeozoic cephalopod. It measures 116mm or 4 1/2 inches in length and exhibits great detail. It comes from the Devonian age Limestone of Morocco and dates circa 350 million years old. Supplied labeled. Priced at £7. Quote Ref No. C 196



Goniatite Devonian Africa


Unidentified. This is a nice 3D early ammonite ancestor indeed at 14mm across (just over 1/2 inch). It has great definition, showing lovely colour. It is circa 340 million years old from the Atlas Mountains, Devonian of Morocco, North Africa. Supplied with label and in an attractive display box.
